Paal Kozhukattai –Ganesh Chathurthi Recipes

Paal Kozhukattai is a popular and festive Tamil food. It is prepared during Vinayaka Chathurthi. It tastes delicious and one of the most time consuming dish and requires a lot of time and patience to do.

Ingredients for the maavu (dough):
Rice Flour – 1 cup (No need to roast)
Water 1 ¼ cup
Salt – ½ tea spoon
Sesame Oil – 2 tea spoon
Ingredients for the paal:Milk – 2 cups
Sugar – ½ cup
Cardamom – 2 (powdered)
Edible Camphor – A pinch

Method
For Maavu:
Heat water in a pan
Add oil and salt to it
Once the water comes to a boil, add the rice flour and blend it well
Stir it continuously till it becomes into a soft dough
Remove from heat and close with a lid and keep aside
For KozhukattaiMake small balls (very small) – about the size of a caper or uppu seedai with the dough and keep aside. This takes a long time and is the lengthiest step in the entire recipe
Steam cook the balls for 10 minutes
Remove from the cooker and add it to the boil and cook for about an hour
Add cardamom, edible camphor and remove from heat

  2. looks great...we use to put the balls directly in boiling water...steaming is a good idea...and we add coconut milk...
