Donuts, the word makes many people drool... A sinfully delicious and mouth melting pastry. Aparna chose these Baked donuts for this month's We Knead to Bake. I have done the regular Donuts and baked donuts are new to me and I was happy to have tried it.. Tasted awesome and it was delicious..
Ingredients
Powdered Sugar - 1/4 cup
Warm Milk - 1 cup
Instant Yeast - 2 1/4 tea spoon (1 packet)
Salt - 1/2 tea spoon
Vanilla Extract - 2 tea spoons
All Purpose Flour - 1 to 1 1/2 cups
Cake Flour - 1 cup
Cold Butter - 100 grams
Method
Cut the butter into 1 inch cubes and set aside
Sieve the cake flour, 1 cup all purpose flour and powdered sugar and add it to the mixer
Add salt, yeast, vanilla and the warm milk
Add little more flour if needed to make a dough which is thick and also pulls away from the sides of the mixer
Add the butter, one inch at a time and run the mixer until most of the butter is incorporated
If needed add little more flour and knead until you have a soft and pliable dough
Finish kneading the dough with hands until the dough no longer is sticking to your hand
Make the dough to a smooth ball and place it in a greased bowl covered for 1 hour or until double in size
Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set aside
After an hour, punch down the dough and roll it into 1/2 inch thickness
Cut out the doughnuts with 3" inch cutter and the smaller and inner hole with a 1 inch cutter.
Carefully lift the doughnuts from the surface and transfer to the baking tray with at least 1 inch space in between. Do this with all the dough
cover this and let it rest for another 30 minutes or until double in size
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C
Bake them in the preheated oven for 7 to 10 minutes or until golden
Immediately brush them with butter and set aside to cool
Allow them to cool completely before glazing them
Points to note
If you do not have cake flour, then fill 1 table spoon corn starch in 1 cup size and then the remaining with all purpose flour to get cake flour.
You can roll them into cinnamon and sugar mixture or do glazing or dust them with powdered sugar
I have decorated them with chocolate glaze, with powdered sugar, with chocolate glaze and butterscotch crystals, with chocolate glaze and sprinkles. All of them were delicious
Make sure to roll your doughnuts to 1/2 inch thickness
If you want to do a filling doughnut, then do not make a hole
