Today we are visiting the state of Central India. Madhya means middle and pradesh is place and I believe that the story behind the name of the state - Madhya Pradesh. This is a very refreshing and delicious drink. It is scotching summer here and what a better way to beat the heat other than a refreshing juice.. So chilling!!! I got this recipe from here. Shikanji is also popular in the neighboring states of Maharashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh also.. Since it is a simple post, I have shared some tricks of serving the juices in my post..
Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 1 cup
Water - 2 cups
Ginger Juice - 1 table spoon
Mix together lemon juice and ginger juice
Heat water and sugar in a pan and bring it to a boil.
Once the sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and allow it to cool
When the syrup has cooled, add it to the lemon and juice juice
Now the syrup is ready
To serve, combine 2 - 3 table spoons of the syrup, add in chilled water / chilled soda and some ice!!
To make the serving even more appealing, I decorated the serving juice glass rim with sugar
To decorate, Place some sugar crystals in a plate
Wet the rim of the glass and 1/2 inch height with water
Press the glass rim on the sugar plate and the sugar will stick to the wet area
Cut a piece of fresh lemon and cut inside until half in one place
Place the lemon on the glass rim
Pour the juice inside the glass and now you are ready to serve
To make the lemon inserted ice cube, take out the ice cube tray and place small lemon pieces such that it fits inside the tray
Pour drinking water over it and freeze. When you remove the ice cube, the lemon will be in the center and makes a great way to serve lemon juice..
