For this week BM we will be seeing a variety of snacks starting with a type of Bonda today. Fried items are many people's weakness.. You can just stop with one.. Same holds true for this delicious bonda. This bonda is made with a variety of lentils (parupu) along with spices ad herbs.
Ingredients
Kadalai Parupu / Channa Dal - 1/2 cup
Ulutham Parupu / Urad Dal - 1/4 cup
Kaaramani / Black eyed peas - 2 table spoons (optional)
Red Chili – 6 (adjust to taste)
Rice - 2 table spoons
Green Chili - 2
Onions - 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
Asafetida - 1/4 tea spoon
Salt - 3/4 tea spoon
Curry Leaves - 10 (chopped fine)
Coriander Leaves - 2 table spoons (chopped fine)
Fennel Seeds - 1 tea spoons
Oil - to fry
Method
Soak the dals, kaaramani and rice in luke warm water for 2 hours
Strain the water, but do not discard all water and grind it to a coarse paste
To the above batter, add salt, curry leaves, coriander leaves, green chili and asafetida
Mix well
Heat oil in a frying pan until medium hot
Add the onions and fennel seeds to the batter
Make small balls from the batter and drop it into the medium hot oil
Deep fry until golden on all sides
Remove from oil to a paper towel
Serve hot with chutney or sauce

That's a nice combo of daals going in to make a bonda. We call them daalwadas here but i like the variations in the daal. Yummy.
