Sautéed Mung Beans / Mung Beans Curry

Here comes a delicious, simple and healthy dish from dal.. I made this for breakfast yesterday we all loved it.. This will be a regular in my kitchen from now.. Try this and you will enjoy it!! This goes into Lentils in different ways theme for this BM..

Ingredients

Whole Green Moong Dal / Payaru / Mung Beans - 1 cup
Onion - 1/2 cup (chopped)
Tomato - 1 medium (chopped)
Green Chili - 1 (cut into 2 or 3 pieces)
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tea spoon
Red Chili - 1
Black Pepper Powder - 1/4 tea spoon
Asafetida - 1/8 tea spoon
Salt - 1/4 tea spoon + 1/4 tea spoon
Oil - 1/2 tea spoon
Urad Dal / Ulutham Parupu - 1 tea spoon
Turmeric Powder - A pinch

Method

Soak the moong dal for 8 hours
Remove the water and add fresh water and cook with 1/4 tea spoon salt and a pinch of turmeric for 8 - 10 minutes until it is cooked.. It should hold its shape and have a bite and not be mushy
Strain any excess water and set aside
Heat oil in a pan and once hot add the mustard seeds
When the mustard seeds crackle, add the urad dal and red chili
Saute until urad dal is golden and add the green chili and onions
Add 1/4 tea spoon salt and cook until the onions are tender
Add tomato and cook for 3 minutes
Add the cooked payaru and mix well
Finally sprinkle some black pepper powder and mix well. Check for salt, if needed add another 1/4 tea spoon..
Remove from heat and serve hot!!!

  3. You can try the same recipe with sprouted moong. A dash of lemon juice will also make a world of difference
