This is the first time I am doing a tart.. I generally thought tarts are made in tart pans with pastry dough, but I was partially incorrect as I should have thought as "Most" tarts are done in a tart pan with a pastry dough. Baking Partners challenge gives me an opportunity to do recipes that I might not really try... This recipe is fairly simple and can get you many rave reviews and lots of wow!!! Most of the ingredients in here are by choice, like onions, olives, cheese, sun dried tomatoes. This recipe is one of the four recipes for this month's Baking partner's challenge announced by Swathi
Ingredients
Puff Pastry Sheet - 1
Onions - 2 cups (thinly sliced)
Sun Dried Tomato - 1/2 cup
Italian Seasoning - A pinch + 1/2 tea spoon
Olive Oil - 1 table spoon
Milk - 8 table spoons
Butter - 1 table spoon
All Purpose Flour - 1 table spoon
Salt - A pinch + 1/4 tea spoon
Cheese - 1/2 cup (grated)
Finely Chopped Fresh Leaves (Basil, thyme, mint or coriander leaves)- 1 table spoon
Olives - 5 (Sliced)
Method
Allow the puff pastry to thaw to room temperature
Heat olive oil in a pan and cook the onions on medium low heat for about 15 minutes stirring occasionally. Do this until the onions are caramelized well. Allow it to cool.
In another pan, heat butter and add all purpose flour and cook for a minute stirring continuously to ensure no lumps are formed
Now add milk a table spoon at a time and mix continuously to ensure no lumps
Add a pinch of salt and Italian Seasoning and once it comes together as a dough, remove from heat and set aside
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C
Roll the pastry lightly to remove any seems and prick it with a fork throughout, just leave a half inch border. Keep it on an UNGREASED tray. No Parchment paper required.
Bake the pastry sheets in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until golden
Remove and transfer to a cooling rack and allow it to come to room temperature
Transfer the pastry sheet back to the baking tray and fill it in the following order
First spread the béchamel sauce (or béchamel dough) with a spoon like how you would spread butter on a bread
Put the caramelized onions, sun dried tomatoes and olives on top and fill it with grated cheese
Put it back in the oven for about 10 - 15 minutes until the cheese is well melted
Garnish with fresh leaves and serve hot!!!
