Dal Bhat w Rice

Today we are travelling to our neighboring country - Nepal to relish their National food - Dal Bhat with Rice.. When I was searching for the combos this was one of the first ones I had selected but could do it only yesterday!!! I made this for lunch and it was a very comforting and satisfying meal.. The best part is that you felt like eating home food but it is an International one!!! Serve this hot with steaming hot rice!!

Parupu Usli

Parupu usli is a very popular dish which is made from dals and green beans. This is served in almost all marriages and functions. This is very rich in nutrients from parupu which is rich in proteins and green beans which is a green vegetable. This one is also very appealing to the eye with green, yellow and red colors. It is a great accompaniment to mor kuzhambu, rasam or sambar. It is very filling as it comes with a lot of protein. Since the grinded dal tastes similar to vadai, we also call this vadaikkari..

Senai Kizhangu Kootu

A very delicious and authentic kootu which has lots of flavor. I make this quite often and it is one of our favorite kootu. I have added coconut oil, but you could use regular cooking oil. You can enjoy this kootu with plain white rice, curd rice, rasam rice etc. It also makes a great lunchbox dish. Mix rice and little coconut oil with the kootu and enjoy for lunch as is or with appalam (papad).. Here is another delicious kootu from Tamil Nadu

There are different types of Sambar like Aracha sambar or grinded sambar, non-grinded sambar or plain sambar, mor kuzhambu, milagu kuzhambu, vathal kuzhambu, parupu urndai kuzhambu etc. This recipe is for Aracha sambar or grinded sambar. It is a daily food in lot of places in South India. I am using small onions here, you could also use drumstick, raddish, lady finger (okra), white pumpkin etc. I am sharing this for this month's Marathon.Arachuvitta Sambar - IMG_1819

3 Parupu Kootu (3 பருப்பு கூட்டு)

3 parupu kootu is a very tasty kootu that is made with three types of parupu (dals). This recipe is for pumpkin kootu, but chow chow, cabbage can also be made like this. This is very healthy and rich in protein. This is pretty easy to do. Adjust chili and salt to taste. This is another homey food that I do quite often but never got a chance to take a picture..
