Rasam is one of the most comforting food on Planet... There are so many varieties to it and it is so versatile, so flavorful and so delicious. This rasam is also similarly very flavorful, very aromatic, very comforting.. This rasam is made in a lot of Tamil marriages. It is very simple to do. Do not be intimidated with the number of ingredients, most of them are in our house Pantry.
Ingredients
Pineapple pieces (1 inch) - 1/2 cup (about 10 to 15 pieces)
Pineapple Juice – 1/4 cup
Water – 5 cups
Tuvaram Parupu / Toor Dal – ½ cup
Turmeric Powder – ½ + 1/2 tea spoon
Salt – 1 ½ tea spoons
Rasam Powder – 1 table spoon
Coriander leaves – 2 table spoons
Curry leaves – 10
Ghee – 1 table spoon
Cumin Seeds – ½ tea spoon
Red chili – 2
Asafetida – ¼ tea spoon
Tomato – 2
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 tea spoon
Ginger (chopped) – 1 tea spoon
Green Chili (slit cut) – 3
MethodCut the tomatoes and keep aside
Boil the tuvaram parupu along with adding 2 cups of water and 1/2 tea spoon of turmeric powder
Once boiled, mash the tuvaram parupu to a paste and keep it aside
Heat a pan and add the cut tomatoes, ginger, water, green chili, pineapple chunks
Once this boils, add turmeric powder, asafetida and rasam powder
Allow this mixture to boil for 4 minutes
Add salt and tuvaram parupu
Once this comes to a boil, add remaining water and let it come to a boil
Heat a small pan and add ghee
Add mustard seeds and once it crackles, add cumin seeds and sauté for 30 seconds add curry leaves and add red chili and sauté for 15 seconds and add this to the rasam
Garnish with coriander and cover with a lid for 5 minutes
Add pineapple juice, bring it to a slow boil and remove from heat
Pineapple Rasam is now ready to be served hot!!
