Thiruvathirai is a festival celebrated in the Margazhi Maasam on the Thiruvathirai Star.. Thiruvathirai kali recipe is a festival food made on thiruvathirai. It is a very delicious recipe that is served with 7 vegetable kootu (recipe will come soon).
Ingredients
Rice – 1 cup
Cardamom - 4
Vellam / Jaggery – 3/4 cup
Cashew and Dried Grapes – 1 table spoon each
Ghee – 4 table spoon
Grated Coconut – 1/2 cup
Coconut pieces - 1/2 cup
Water – 1 3/4 cups
Method
Fry the rice to near red and set aside to cool.
Grind the rice to break the rice like ravai (will be close to little yellowish)
Mix vellam in water well
Vellam should only get mixed not paaku
Add grinded rice to the vellam water
Mix well and add cardamom till water is absorbed and becomes dry
Keep 1 spoon ghee in a cooker vessel and keep the maavu inside with nothing more added
Keep till 2 or 3 whistles
Remove from cooker. Add cashew and dried grapes
Sauté the grated coconut in little ghee until it becomes golden. Set this aside
Sauté the coconut pieces in little ghee until it becomes golden. Set this aside
Add grated coconut, coconut pieces and ghee and kali is now ready for neivedhiyam
